A WORD ON FASTING AND PRAYER FROM PASTOR THADDEUS R. EASTLAND

Prayer and Fasting is more than spiritual duty it is a benefit to the WHOLE person. Fasting is a privilege and a benefit. Fasting makes room for the benefits of God that are too often crowded and drowned out by our everyday living. As we prepare for the SACRED SEASON OF SUCCESS here are three reasons that the Sacred Season positions us for Spiritual SUCCESS:

Fasting Cleanses The SOUL. Our bodies are the temple of God. Fasting reminds us of the Spirit-Body connection. Fasting purges the toxins from our bodies, giving the digestive process a break and combined with pray detoxes our Spirit beings as well.

Fasting Renews Our Desire For God. Fasting reinforces our need for God to live, and to live more abundantly. We acknowledge that we need God more than we need food. Fasting creates in us a thirst for God: “Like the deer that pants after water, my soul longs for You.”  Psalm 42:1

Fasting Makes Us Sensitive To The Voice of God. In Luke 2:36 Anna is able to hear the voice of God because she fasted and prayed.  When our spirits are purged through fasting and prayer we become sensitive to God’s voice speaking even in the midst of chaos and distracting static all around. Fasting trains our spiritual ears - “let him who has ears hear!”
